John Locke
John Locke
The works of John Locke were the next great written source studied, after the Bible, for the New England clergy of the 1700's. These clergymen educated the American colonists in political principles and taught that government should be revelational of God. John Locke, much maligned by those who would wish to separate him from Christians, was a saved Christian and his works reveal his extensive Biblical research. He was widely read in Colonial America and many of his phrases and statements can be found in the writings of our Founding Fathers. Let us also examine Mr. Locke as we seek to restore the Scriptures as America's "political textbook."
